Dear All I was intrigued to learn about the conspiracy allegations in NZ and also much relieved to find that the persons concerned have been released as nothing appeared to have been found against them. What was all this about? How come it was blown up in such a big way around the world? Any takes on this? Ringdove

Our police force is corrupt. It's as simple as that.. it also seems to be a worldwide trend at the moment, Governments and State police seeing how far they can push the indigenous peoples, in my opinion it has something to do with oil shortages - indigenous all around the world are fighting legislation which gives Governments control over not yet stolen lands. All over the world mining companies are moving in on the tangata whenua - they want the land.
Back to New Zealand ... If you knock out the main agitators, the environmentalists, the land activists , the peace activists, those with the knowledge, strength and resources to make a stand, who fights the good fight? who is left to really put the pressure on? To step outside the square? Mainstream New Zealand are having the wool pulled over there little sheep eyes.
Hey just my opinion.

Hey ringdove, nice to "see" ya! Following "9/11", there was a terrorist law go through (Supression of Terrorism Act). This was the test case for that Act. In the main, the "evidence" (not that we've seen any) came from surveillance through texts, phone taps etc, and the activists were the targets of Police attention. There was some suggestion there were military training camps that these activist groups were involved in. The militia type thing was rather dubious - considering one of the activists arrested has been a long time anti-gun lobbyist! Lol.
The Solicitor General found some of the activities of the groups "disturbing", but said the Act was poorly written and there was insufficient evidence to prosecute them under the STA.
There will be ramifications from this. The Police Commissioner in charge has staked his reputation on the "evidence" and actions taken. Some of the "actions" taken were the Police blocked off Ruatoki, a predominantly Maori settlement in the Ureweras, questioned everyone coming to and from the settlement, took photos of them and boarded a pre-school bus with guns. Not good.

Dear Lux and Sparrow I managed to make a successful login after several days of trying. Your comments make a lot of sense. We are having our own troubles in India. The main crisis is about the pressure on land. Recently there was a big standoff between the Government in the province of West Bengal and the peasants in one district there. The authorities wanted to acquire the land for handing over to one industrialist group from Indonesia; the peasants said no, the land was their lifeline. The Government was insistent and the peasants were determined to resist. There has been loss of life and the struggle is continuing. Generally state power is becoming more and more arbitrary all over the world! Greetings from Ringdove

hey Ringdove I appreciate your posting I am slightly in shock and at the same time inspired by the "little people" standing up to the threat. You expressed the situation very well. Whilst the situation here is different, the differences are different and the same.
I agree with your last sentence "state power is becoming more and more arbitrary all over the world!"
