Correct: Misilon 1 pt. for reciting the nursary rhyme correctly.
Little 'Tommy Tucker' referred to in the words of this nursery rhyme was a colloquial term that was commonly used to describe orphans - Little Tommy Tucker . The orphans were often reduced to begging or 'singing for their supper'. The reference to Little Tommy Tucker marrying and the lack of a wife reflects the difficulty of any orphan being able to marry due to their exceptionally low standing within the community. The first publication date for Little Tommy Tucker was 1829.

What nationality is the inventor of the crossword puzzle?

The first newspaper crossword puzzle was published in 1913 by an Englishman, Arthur Wynne. Taken from Readers Digest Book of Facts. Not sure if he was the inventor though.

Yes fishmuff my source said the crossword was published in an American newspaper, but Arthur Wynne was supposedly English. Lol probably a similiar situation to the pavlova being an Australian invention and not a Kiwi one

My curiosity was piqued so I had a look through Google and after 5 pages, came up with the name Victor Orvilhe as the crossword inventor.

Correct: Maire, English immigrant named Arthur Wynne. My source also said he was American, but I've since found several hits via google that he was actually English.
