Well I dont wanna go thru another day like that. My middle son David went to the park about 10am, around 10.20 we 'heard' him coming up the road, crying his heart out so I rushed out in my pj's to see what was wrong. He'd fallen off the monkey bars and hurt his arm. Well, by 10.45 I was dressed and down at the local hospital with him, he'd broken his wrist.
But my David doesnt do anything by halves, lol, it was such a bad break he was put in a temporary cast and we were sent up to the main hospital to have the bone reset. This meant theatre and I kinda freaked out a little bit. Those of you who have known me a while may remember a couple of years ago he went to get tonsils out and had bleeding problems in theatre and ended up in ICU for 36 hours on a ventilator, very very poorly. I know it was a completely different scenario this time, but just the word 'theatre' did it for me!
Anyway the Ortho doctors took the cast off and had a good look at it, while he was busy pumping away on the gas and air, and thankfully decided after yet more xrays that it didnt need to be reset.
By this time it was 4pm and the poor wee fulla was starving as he hadnt been allowed anything in case theatre was on the cards. I was starving but couldnt eat in front of him so didnt have anything lol
We eventually got home about 5pm and are back at fracture clinic on Thursday to get a full cast put on once some of the swelling goes down, and he will be in a cast for 6-8 weeks. Poor boy.

Doesnt time fly, we are off to the hospital on 11 Sept for his final clearance hopefully. He got his cast off just before school broke up, and has been very very careful during the holidays - hes learnt to fight/punch with his left arm!! He has one wee lump on his wrist where the bone is reforming but apart from that it looks really good and straight.
I am now finished with broken bones for 2008, Ive had enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep your fingers crossed then Bron ... with three boys, the odds of it happening again are quite high, especially if they are active. ;D Hope all stays well with Davids wrist and they all stay in one 'piece' so mum can live in 'peace'

With 2 of them wearing glasses, I am on first name terms with the opticians, I walk in the door and they ask 'Robert or Sam this time'!!!!!!!!!!!! I fooled them last time it was for me hahahah

My #1 son had 5 broken bones in his arm in one year!! It got to the stage he would walk into the house and say "mum I've broken my arm again". He started at 5-6 yrs falling out of one of our trees and breaking the femur bone in his left leg. He was in hospital in traction for 2 weeks then taken to theatre and put into a cast from the chest right down his body and left leg to the ankle. That was a horrendous time, every time we left, we could hear him yelling as we walked down the ward, "don't leave me here". Then when he finally came home, the frustration from an extremely active (hyper) boy for the next 6 weeks & poor mum having to put up with it, set in .. I think that's when I got my first grey hairs ;D A few years later he broke his arm on the playground equipment at school, then broke both arms (falling out of that darn tree again) 4 more times. He ended up getting a pin in his left arm, more theatre & hospital time.
The joys of having boys!!!

Just to be different - my boy has never broken anything, lol. The only one that broke anything was my daughter when she was 10 she broke her ankle, 3 months before we left on our big trip to NZ. She was in a cast for 2 months. And I had the occasional chipped finger playing basketball, and cracked my ribs once.
So its the girls that need to look out here!! lol

ouch yollie
My girls fought over the bathroom, both managed to go through the glass of the door on New Year's Eve. Off to the hospital we went #1 daughter ended up with 11 stitches on the side of the face and 13 on the lower arm, daughter #2 ended up with three in total. Both came out after a lecture from the staff nurse on sibling rivalry, but their pain didn't end there. We took them to the New Year's Eve Party, they were miserable.
