1981 was a big deal and I was very much part of it. 2008 the issue is the same but effects two groups. Don't get me wrong I love my sports but I also believe in human rights.

Its a hard call, because so many Countries have human rights issues of which many citizens of each of those Countries could oppose themselves and be unable to do much about it. You see the same scenarios being played out all over the world and much has to do with power and control held by corrupt and fascist leaders.
On the other hand you have an event which is embracing of many Countries and cultures and in my mind is a healthy exchange, its exciting and invigorating... What I don't like is media trashing those athletes who don't win...thats the ridiculous part, they are all great athletes but there can only be one winner.
Everything has a negative side but its nice to see the positive side of things for a change rather than focusing on the negatives, doesn't mean we're not aware or that we don't care about the bad things.
You would hope that the more exposure China has to the rest of the world, the more answerable they will be in regard to human rights issues.

So many countries do have bad human rights records, but they're not holding the Olympic Games. I'm having a personal protest by not watching the Olympics and as Koko knows ... I LOVE SPORTS. It is punishment not to be watching. I think people need to take the opportunity to expose the bad human rights record of a country when that country falls into the spotlight - like China has.
Here endeth my rant.

Well I watched the rowing and really enjoyed it but we went to put the TV on this morning and it won't work so perhaps our TV is protesting for us LOL. Good on you sparrow! I'm thinking the upside is I can finally have one of those fancy TV's! I can still watch the Olympics on the bedroom TV though I'd much prefer to watch on the big TV.

Seriously ... I AM IN PAIN!!!!! Lol.
We have one of those fancy tvs, Lux. We don't go out that much so we brought all the goodies re: home entertainment. When we first got the thing I was like that is going to make our lounge look like a little box. It didn't though, it made our lounge look bigger. For awhile there, it was unseemly how much we loved that TV ... LOL.

We have two tv in the house one in the boy's room for all their horrible music dvd's and play station, the other lounge, so there are continuous scraps over channels and this is when I usually walk up to it and turn it off.
