This is the fourth incident involving police shooting (I can recall). For me always shoot to maim. Although the incident involved a hostage the hostage was safe. If the armed defenders are such crack shots way not maim. Surely an air rifle and shot gun is distinguishable.
Kinda makes me sick. Perhaps a review of the arm defender's policy needs to happen, don't want to end up like the French - shoot first ask later if they're still alive.

I agree with you koko. Too trigger happy. I wonder whether they brought in a negotiator? Or was it just straight in guns ablaze?

in the end they cant win I spose ,..I read if he had aimed for strategic body bits their was always the chance that the slightest movement on the part of the target
lets the bullet find somewhere else to imbed itself maybe someone else's body maybe even the captives body
then the story will have been why didnt he just shoot her instead
yeah its sad but it would never have happened if she was not in that position in the first place for whatever reason
the weapon she had has the ability to do damage to a humans body
I dont blame the police at all for not taking that chance

Maim definitely ... otherwise it's nothing less than murder/manslaughter whatever.
Imo the aos should be trained to control the adrenaline rush that appears to be the force which compels them to shoot to kill.

Maim I agree and i understood the police made it sound worse initially, whilst a terrible situation [all thought you never get the prettied up situation,] that is their job, they choose their job, initially it was implied that it was a stronger gun, and not a air rifle however frightening for the staff at the shop and the Police Sniper of course would have sights on his gun so should be able to tell and also with sight on a gun could maim definitely.
Clearly the offending person was dangerous and unpredictability and an air rifle can cause serious harm but this should of been death with as not shoot to kill. I am not aware of any other situation where Police have shot to maim so clearly is there practice. What I hate is the Greg O Conner Police Association "Fluck Wit" who quickly came out defending the Police Officer I think he appears deranged and needs more time off, permanently I say. A awful situation must be handled better. Perhaps those trigger happy piggie wiggies being such a good aim should be better served on the front line in Afghanistan!!!!!
PLEASE NOTE: I am not anti Police just supportive of professional clean Police Officers. I even no one he lives down the Street and has a Police Car at his house. He walks, rather struts around as though he is essential to the evolution of the universe............
Remember the Book Animal Farm by George Orwell all animals are equal but pigs are more equal than other animals. I want to be equal like the Pigs.
Is that where the word pigs came from, the association?

Greg O'Conner is an idiot, he drives me mad every time he opens that idiot trap. Bob Moodie was the best secretary/spokesperson they every had in the association kaftan and all.
