Maori taught in our primary schools. Below is a post by a guy in trade me in response to yet another anti Maori thread started by our old cuzzie bro nosepicker whining about Maori culture being compulsory for all tertiary courses. Yep he's that bigoted that he says all courses when that is bullshite.
Compulsory Maori education will save this country. It will make our kids think twice about mum's and or dad's bigoted views based on no knowledge of Maoridom.
must say I had to do a compulsory paper in culture and Treaty issues for my Unitech qualification. It turned out a very worthwhile excersise. We spent a day on marae and dicussed various issues with elders and at the end I had to say a few words as only male in our group. Left thinking it was a great experience, a pity more average NZ's don't experience it.

When I was at high school, Maori culture was an option that I took for 2 years, then when my oldest children went to kindy, It was spoken along side English. I for one feel its important for It to be taught in schools, not just Te Reo, but the whole history and culture.
This is not just Maori history, this is NZ history which if not taught will die a slow death.
I worked in the Tourism Industry for many years, and one thing that the Tourists love to know Is the Maori Culture, so yes, I believe Its important in many ways for it to be compulsory in schools....
Much like Aussie schools should have aborigine culture compulsory taught in their schools...
