Wanganui mayor Michael Laws says his family won't be intimidated after two people threw a rock through the window of their home.
The incident, shortly before 5am today, came after the Wanganui District Council voted 8-5 on Tuesday to keep the letter H out of the city and district's names.
Local iwi had been campaigning for the name change, saying Wanganui was misspelt and it was the right of Maori to assert the correct spelling of their language.
Mr Laws called the attack a "cowardly retaliation for my stance on the Wanganui spelling issue".
He offered $500 for information leading to the conviction of the two responsible and Radio Live listeners have pledged a further $600.
"One person threw the rock at my daughter's bedroom, the other drove away in the waiting car. Someone will know who they are. They attacked a child during the hours of darkness, that is the level of their cowardice," Mr Laws said.
"There are cowardly thugs in our community who can't bear democracy. Well, my family gives them this message: we aren't intimidated, and we won't be.
"And I will continue to advocate for the democratic wishes of the Wanganui community. You only make this mayor even more determined."

So he saw who did it and he knows why...was there a message on the rock then?

You think it's complete coincidence?

It's speculation on Laws part. It's a cowardly crime though. Throwing a rock through a kid's bedroom window is pathetic.

I remember this kid throwing rocks at one of our neighbours home, the neighbour kicked his backside all the way to the otherside of the road...he never did it again.
