60 Minutes - Peter Howse

We just watched the 60 Minutes clip which featured a young woman who had been raped by the predator Peter Howse. She was a teenager. Her mother sided with Howse and booted the girl out of the house. The DNA collected was analysed and it mistakenly said "Howse" wasn't the rapist. He was acquitted in court, continued his relationship with the young woman's mother and also, continued to attack women. Years later, the DNA was analysed through a new system and it was found to be Howse's. They couldn't prosecute him because he had already been acquitted of the case.

The reporters got the Mother and daughter together for the first time since the mother had kicked the daughter out. The mother denied everything and stormed off in a huff, yelling abuse in her wake. One of the things that stood out for me is when the mother said to the reporter: "How do you think I feel". Um-okay. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was your daughter who was raped and you supported the rapist, and threw your own daughter out of the house.

The young woman's life was ruined. She spent years self-harming and went into psychiatric care. She left her partner and child (although they have since been reunited) to try and get herself together.

Sad, sad story, but what a wonderful and courageous young woman! I wish her all the best in her future endeavours.

That is pure selfishness on the mothers behalf, she basically chose that scum over her own child.

I know of a woman who had formed a relationship with a known paedophile, cfys stepped and told the woman end the relationship or loose your kids...she married him. Her children live with their Grandparents.

I also have a good friend who was molested by her stepfather as a child, she spoke out, he went to jail, and her family basically disowned her.

I'm not and never have been very maternal, but I do know I would never be able to do that.

Serious: I just don't get that. I don't understand it. Howse was a pervert. The mother knew and she backed him over the daughter. *ugh*.

How the hell can any woman choose a man over her children?
I'm not and never have been very maternal, but I do know I would never be able to do that.

Unfortunately she's not the only woman that takes that path.
