Apartheid - Apartheid is a strict system of racial segregation and discrimination in South Africa against black South Africans. "Apartheid" is the Afrikaans word for "apartness." (Afrikaans is the official language of the Boers, or Afrikaners.)
Soooo does anyone think its a good idea to have a dumbarse like John Banks in charge of Aucklands Super council...being that he's thick as shitee?

If there's going to be a supercity then I think there should be a new election. Banks only just got in on the last election and I don't know why, by default, he should automatically retain his position. Banks is an incredibly divisive figure and how he copes with the protests is going to be interesting.

The whole thing stinks .. it brings to mind the Shakespeare saying "there's something rotten in the state of Denmark".

I find it bloody insulting that a term used in South Africa by Afrikaans which describes a political institution which aggressively oppressed and murdered people because of the colour of their skin - being bandied about in this Country, it is not only insulting to US, it makes light of SA's shameful history - makes you wonder who's buying Banksy the wanksy's lollypops these days! Yip agree sparrow, new elections - I don't think wank would cope at all with the protests and I hope they come hard and fast.
Bout time NZ practiced that age old art of demonstration especially on this issue.
Agree Maire, dirty tactics used by that snake hide. Me thinks he should hide his butt ugly face back in the shitee hole he key and bank-wank climbed out of. With a bit of luck they'll drown in their own crap

I'm really supprised at how often lately I am hearing 'THAT' word bandied about, there was a discussion on the box yesterday as to what the difference is between apartheid and and self determination?
Your thoughts?
Mine:
I think everyone has the right to determine their own culture, and to be proud of who they are and where they come from.
No-body in my opinion has the right to force there culture on to anybody else but I think there is a standard moral code which is acceptable to most cultures.
The problem in mainstream NZ to an extent is the false belief that you could be inducted into another culture without your okay, just simply forced blindly to participate in the belief system of some foreigner or worse the indigenous people of your land. These fears are exhaserbated by pollutant media and long established institutions in which racism has reigned forever and a day. The Establishment.
But what bothers me is 'Are there really people out there who fear Maori self development and self determination is a par to apartheid?' And are those people the same who make reference to problems facing Maori as 'A Maori problem'?
It's almost a mid evil mind set...dunk the accused witch in a pond of water if she drowns that will prove her innocence.
And of course there is the irony of using 'THAT' word which is/was an established system of a foreign culture.
My thoughts, what are yours?
