Anyone know what NIWA is up to with mapping the sea floor I don't know either, but 'no good' springs to mind.

Nope. You want to tell us? ;D One conspiracy theory is that mapping of the sea floor is being surveyed to see if land mass above sea level is connected on a continuous plain to other land mass (country) below sea level. Not sure why this is happening but one can only surmise it's definitely "no good"
