damn stupid i thinks - most are still kids at 16 and only a few are mature enuff to think about more than themselves.
there is nothing wrong with the way the system is now - well apart form the idiots in charge this century.

No put it up to 20 and put the drinking age up to 20 too. >:(I don't know what Jenny Shipley & National thought they were doing when they lowered it. Apart from getting them votes, it has been a disaster.

Because going out on a Saturday night after filching petrol money off your parents (which by the way does not constitute fighting a war though it might seem like a warzone especially if you arrive home with a speeding ticket) to meet your girlfriend/boyfriend for a night of booze and debauchary, does not give you the right to decide for the rest of the nation who should Govern the Country for at least the next 3 years, especially since you haven't made any plans which go past next Saturday nights adventures.
Seriously though I don't like teenagers so that is the reason for my propangadist statement above...the real reason teenagers shouldn't get the vote...easy...I don't like them! ;D

I think most 16 year olds wouldn't even want to vote!! Most of them aren't interested in the slightest about politics, they have no idea what its all about!! Here in Holland you're not allowed to drive until 18 either and in all honesty I think thats a good thing too. Of course our roads are much busier and there is good public transport. And almost everyone has a bike!

surprisingly... i was more inclined to vote when i was 16 than now. back then I was too stupid to realize that no one running is worth be dumping in a bag and sending to them in the mail...
now, when i vote... i feel horrible, no matter which way i go... its normally well, who is the less terrifying pick...

Here's a funny voting story
When I voted for the first time my father asked me who I was voting for. He was a labour man through and through and I refused to tell him. Anyway Nation won that year and my father blamed me, like my little wee vote mattered. (I didn't vote for either of them).

Updated: NZ Herald - Mike Houlahan Summary
Respondents Herald-DigiPoll have rejected Sue Bradford proposal, 91.3 rejected and 6.8 Support.
"Ms Bradford will still enter her member's bill to the ballot. The bill, if drawn from the ballot and then passed by Parliament, would not only lower the voting age but make civics education compulsory.
"Other political parties have expressed doubt about lowering the voting age."
