It appears the Highlanders maybe in a bit of trouble for next year. Rumour has it that Nick Evans is leaving and returning to Auckland (confirmed). To make it worse - Jimmy Cowan appears to be departing as well. At the moment Cowan is in negotiations with a French Club, but the NZRU are wanting to secure the half-back's signature until at least 2009. The rumour is Cowan is on the lookout for another club/franchise - either here or abroad to advance his career. If he wants to advance his career in the ABs, it seems likely he will be in negotiations with other S14 franchises. I'm picking it will be the Blues because they are one of the teams that need a decent 9-10 axis and Evans, and Cowan would fit in there quite well.
With Hayman, Oliver and Co departing at the end of this year I don't envy the Highlanders and am hoping they won't become NZ's version of the Reds ....
