All Blacks legend Zinzan Brooke has suffered unspecified head injuries and is in a Spanish hospital, Television New Zealand reported tonight.
It was unclear at this stage exactly how serious the injuries to the former world-beating No. 8 are or how they were suffered.
His brother and former All Black lock Robin Brooke said he had been in contact with Zinzan's wife but did not know how bad the injuries were.
It is thought Brooke had suffered a head fracture and was bed-ridden and having trouble talking.
There were reports he may have been hurt falling out of a taxi.
TVNZ reported Brooke was coaching a Barbarian's side in the town of Elche, 200 kilometres south of Valencia, when he received the injury.
Spanish doctors operated on Brooke on Sunday to relieve the pressure on his brain.
Brooke's pregnant wife Alison is by his side – the couple already have three children.
Brooke played 58 tests for the All Blacks between 1987-97 and was one of the most skillful forwards to ever don the black jersey.
He was famous for doing things on the field no other players would have even attempted, epitomized by the three drop goals he kicked during his international career.
Hope he gets well soon.
