This year we are going out (the whole family) first bowling and then eating. First time we are doing this, I'm actually amazed my SIL (from hell) agreed to it!!
It will be my parents, my brother/said SIL and their 2+1 children, our lot (four of us), my sister, my youngest brother and his girlfriend and her daughter. So 15 in all.
Usually we take turns at having the family do at home. Pressies aren't done at this time, as we celebrate St.Nicolaas on December 5th. (we do put a few wee things under the tree though - its a hard habit to break, lol)

;)There is still 64 days for sis in law to change her mind Yollie ;D ;D At the moment we are going round to my sis in laws (she's lovely, more from heaven than hell). We went there last year and had a great day. Heaps of people there, it really is an extra large extended family. She has 7 daughters, 5 of which had their partners there and two have children. She was brought up by another family when their mum died, so the two foster sisters and their husbands and children and grandchildren and partners were there too. Plus her current partners two girls and their partners and children were there. And there was my family. This year there will be all the above, minus two of the girls (they are in Scotland) but my sister is coming.

only 61 now maire. Nah she'll be sweet.
My SIL is very prone to moods and if she's in one of "them" heaven help whoever is around, lol. She can be very fun as well, we will just have to wait and see!

Till Christmas!!! So what is everyone planning (or not planning as the case may be?) What do you do at Christmas? I'm planning to have a good clean out in my kids rooms, I always do this before Christmas, so I can resent buying them anything new at Christmas - since they are spoiled brats and don't deserve it. For Christmas now we don't have to make the decision anymore over which family we spend Christmas with as my partners parents are both deceased and his brothers and sisters are scattered all around NZ and overseas. My family get together, about 24 of us - covering five generations, we all make our specialty dishes, sometimes we have Christmas day at the beach, or sometimes at mum and dads, then all head off to the beach boxing day. Our daughter may be starting a school holiday job this Christmas so not sure what our plans are yet. We'll have to fit them around her - hoping to get up to Tony's whanau in Rotorua we usually try to spend a week up there and in Tauranga, and at least a week at the beach on the west coast, though we're also known to follow the sun, and could end up anywhere in the North Island, I do hope to visit little Waihi this summer as we spent some time there last summer and had a fantastic time.

Ok Yollie, I'm over the shock that Xmas is coming. We have a tradition - all names go into a hat and everyone pulls a name of the person that you buy for - maximum of $50.00 and everyone buys for the grandson. This year I did something different for food and booze shopping. (I'm a last minute Sally) I joined a ripped off scheme we have in NZ called Chrisco. The whole deal was worth just over a $1,000 but for me it was worth the rip off because instead of leaving it to the last minute I now have all the time in the world to buy one present. I probably wont join the scheme next year. It's so funny not having that anxious feeling.

59 days and still counting down. I wish we had something like Chriscos here, I think they would do pretty well. I'm usually a bit of a last minute shopper as well, although when I go for the food and booze I try and get out first thing in the morning as later in the day its really busy, people stocking up as if they won't be able to get to a shop for two weeks!! It always amazes me the amounts they leave the shops with. I usually try and keep my pantry filled with the regular items, so by Christmas time its only a few bits and bobs extra... a nice piece of meat, some munchies, cakes etc. Also I try to plan ahead, if I see that nice piece of meat on discount beforehand I will buy it and put it in the freezer. It spreads the costs out a bit too.
