It is Celtic History, I think it was Norway when they invaded Scotland back in the 11th Century. The Scotts won the Norwegian instruments at the time and well ever since they have played them. I read this book from a man I know in Masterton.... only because it was interesting to know my clan and came across this information. Scottish History is very interesting too Lux but it didnt actually come from there... King Richard of Lancaster I think was one of my whanau. So there you go not only Maori but Royalty too.

So far Kokonutwoman has come the closest to my source. But this history may be debatable so back up your findings and lets see who can offer the best finding.

The earliest possible reference to a bagpipe occurs around 400 BC, when Aristophones, the Athenian poet jibed that the pipers of Thebes (an enemy of Athens) blew pipes made of dogskin with chanters made of bone. [1] Several hundred years later, Suetonius described the Roman Emperor Nero as a player of the tibia utricularis in Lives of the Twelve Caesars. Nero is reported to have said he would play the bagpipe in public as a penance for not winning a poetry contest..... the world according to "wiki".....

Correct: Ancient Egypt. The bagpipes were thought to have originated in Ancient Egypt but the Scots added the 3rd drone.

Largest = Sudan and smallest = Pygmy. But I'm just kidding I got those from my dictionary and couldn't resist using the Pygmy one for the smallest country. Lol seemed quite appropriate I thought

Sounds like Mexico.
Re the Pygmy thing Lux, I was doubtful too as they also listed Bantu, Bushman, Bedouin & Berber which all sound more to do with tribes/people, than actual countries. Maybe they are used by those peoples to describe their traditional territories?
