I've read a few fantasy series... Robin Hobb's Soilder Son Trilogy is the latest I have read.
Then there was the Flowers War - I happend upon a book that had all three books together. It was all about fairies and how the fairy world were going to rage war on the human world.

I have read most of the Shannara series by Terry Brooks. He has written quite a few trilogies and they have grown with each new one. Also the Magical Kingdom series by the same author. I also love the Dragon series by Anne McCaffrey, there are quite a few there as well, but each book can be read separately.
I started on the Wheel of time series (? Jordan) but while enjoying the book, the fact that the story continues on well into a 9th (10th?) book has put me off a bit. I like a story to eventually come to an end - 3 or 4 books I think is the limit!

I agree Yollie, some series can be just a bit too long, eg the Australian one we all read when we were at Old Friends. I can't remember the name but it was about a group of friends who had been camping when Australia was invaded. Another series that seemed to run out of steam was Earths Children from Jean M Auel. Her last book was a shocker and after waiting so many years to read it, very disappointing. I remember reading somewhere she was quite ill while writing it, so that is probably why. A shame as her other books were great for transporting you back in time, making you feel as though you were right there with Ayla. Hope she can finish the story, there are too many loose ends.

Earths Children is brilliant... I heard they are going to be making a film of the books??? there will be more because as you say, the story isnt finished yet!

The Australian one was Tomorrow when the war began, at least that was the first book. I only read the first 3 I think, couldn't get hold of anymore. I never read the Earths Children books, I think I've got part one still lying around somewhere, never got round to it. Also read the Julian May series (Many coloured land??), will have a look, 4 books, they were pretty good too. Before I worked in the hospital in Den Helder, I worked in Amsterdam for 13 months and commuted by train daily. The train takes an hour and a quarter, and then by tram for another 20 minutes, so I was always reading. Got through lots of books, there was a really good book shop at the station in Amsterdam, sold lots of English books and thats where I got most of the series I read. I must have averaged about 5 or 6 books a week back then! I usually got through at least one book every two days, sometimes finished one on the same day!
