I was sorry to learn of the Everester Edmund Hillary's death who was a familiar figure to us in India. He will be remembered with admiration and as an ambassador of goodwill (he was in fact in later years New Zealand's High Commissioner in New Delhi). I had a close feeling of kinship with him for a personal reason. I was taught geography in school by Mr Gurdial Singh who had I believe been part of the team which accompanied Sir Edmund and Sherpa Tensing upto the base camp before the final assault on Everest in 1953.
