There is a list of avatars in your 'modify' profile function, I will be adding more avatars when I have the time, so check it from time to time you may see something you'd like, otherwise you can upload your own avatar through photobucket.com.
There is a size limit so be aware of that, if you try to upload something which is over the size limit it won't work.
Also sometimes you need to refresh to be able to view the avatar you have uploaded.
An avatar is the picture you have in the space next to your username, you can also have a signature in that area, which might be a favourite saying or ditty.
