Hey Punga - my husband and I trade on TM, but I wouldn't say we're serious traders i.e. we don't do it for a business. I find the site okay to do what we do on.
If you've got any tips on trading etc, I'd be happy to read it!

If you've got any tips on trading etc, I'd be happy to read it! the only advice that i think is worthy of suggesting,is,dont sell cheap stuff if you dont want to attract cheap people.ie if the trade is no worthy of a phone call, then,in my oppinion,it aint worth doing.the written word is way too easily misinterpreted. i also believe that so long as you hold collecting fb's as a main priority, the some buggar is gonna come along fark it all up. ive been making a living off the site since i had 5 and started and continue to sell items averaging 5 or 600 dollars. i dont care about my fb count and regularly ask for none to be placed, but many people just cant help themselves.

Hehe I don't sell much. But every now and then go on a buying spree. From my buyers perspective I like traders who communicate well, describe the item really well and charge honest shipping. I don't mind pay extra on top of the postage but once paid the 11.50 postage charge they asked for after the auction finished and when it arrived it was only $4.75. Bit too much for packing and handling.
As for the site, I do like it. I went back to my first love (ebay) a couple of weeks back and I could hardly work it. Not as user friendly as TM

I think the great trading days of TM are past actually, tpo many people think its an extension of the $2 shop, because of all the cheap imported stuff..

Even though we have our old double garage full of old furniture and bits and pieces and my husband is forever saying "sell it", I haven't got into selling on there yet and don't think I will ever bother. I have spurts on buying, as there is not a lot I really want, or more importantly, I can never find what I want, in an area I am willing to buy from (the Hutt Valley). I wouldn't buy large items from out of my area either, which restricts my buying sometimes, as that is one area I browse in quite often. One thing that really puts me off TM auctions, is the auto bid. I stop bidding as soon as I see someone has an auto bid on ... I will go for a Buy Now rather than bid ;D

Yep agree and if it had been on the auction I would have moved on It has made me far more aware to ask for postage and handling costs. So when I bought I agreed to whatever postage the seller was going to put on it. It was a lesson learnt.

It was a lesson learnt. my bill this month is just under $700...i got about $500 paid in. given that i use 3 trucking companies for each order, not couriers,it is impossible to get a price before the item is actually shipped.occaisionally,id like to make money on shipping or even break even...it hasnt happened yet

I do a bit of trading, was a help when I was a student to get by, also use trade me to fundraise for family projects, I have a passion for reading and I like to share books. Have heard some great stories from people who have bought books off me. I like going to book sales and hunting out 'off the wall' kinda books and match it with a reader who has an interest in the topic. Its more of a hobby for me, I'd never make serious money.

Though on the upside I did fish a book out of a rubbish bin which earned me $105 on TM! We bought a computer through my work for about $100. They were getting rid of them and selling stuff at bargain basement prices. We put it on TM and got about $750 for it. We liked that one!
