Supermum Jane McAllister runs an internationally successful business while keeping an eye on her brood of 14.
Throw in 12 grandchildren and it’s a wonder anything ever gets done.
"You just have to balance everything," the 52-year-old Titirangi resident says.
"Work when you can work and see to the children when you have to."
Jane’s daughter Emma says her mother never ceases to amaze her.
"I don’t know how she does it – the way she finds time to do everything.
"Often she doesn’t go to bed until 1am after she’s put all the kids to bed."
Emma has nominated her mum for a mother of the year award.
The competition is being run by Mothers Online, an internet based networking site for mums, and a winner will be announced on May 11.
Emma says Jane is especially deserving.
She says her mum always has time for family despite her work with the Dimples babywear clothing label that she started in 1992.
Jane made clothes for her children when they were little and eventually started doing it commercially.
Her company started exporting its clothes about 10 years ago and the Dimples brand is now sold in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, France and Australia.
A deal was secured with the exclusive London based retailer Harrods in 2006.
Jane says the business continues to expand and she now has her sights set on the United States.
She still gets a kick out of every new step the company takes.
"I’ve never lost the passion," she says.
Jane says her husband Sam, who she married when she was just 16, has played a big part in the business’ success.
"He’s been really supportive. He listens to me go on and on about all the new ideas I’ve got," she says.
Dimples is a real family affair and most of the McAllister children play a role in the business on a day to day basis.
"Me and my oldest daughter Felicity have been running the business together for the past nine years and it has gone from strength to strength," Jane says.
"I’m the ideas person whereas she’s hands on. She makes the whole thing run and keeps the orders going out and keeps everyone on task."
Jane’s son Christopher and his wife run the Dimples website, while her daughter Rebecca manages the company store in Newmarket.
The mother of the year will be selected from winners in various age categories who will all share in a prize pool worth more than $20,000.
There will also be a people’s choice winner.

Well I for one would love to have her as a mentor!
