Police face cover-up chargesSaturday, 17 May 2008 www.stuff.co.nz/4552069a10.htmlTwo serving New Zealand police officers, a former officer and a man believed to be currently serving in the Queensland police force face charges of conspiring to defeat the course of justice after allegedly lying about the way a man died. The four appeared in Manukau District Court yesterday, the New Zealand Herald reported. Two of the four were granted interim name suppression. Serving officer Clinton Hill, 29, is charged with assaulting George Tipene Harris, 24, on October 3, 2004, shortly before he ran into the path of a street sweeper and was killed. Benson Murphy understood to be a Queensland police force officer faces a conspiracy charge. The charges follow a high-level police inquiry into an alleged cover-up over Mr Harris's death. The inquiry led by Detective Superintendent Malcolm Burgess was prompted by new information claiming Mr Harris was assaulted in the back of a police car shortly before the accident. The Independent Police Conduct Authority inquired into the death in 2004 but found no one at fault. NZPA [This is another tragic example and illustrates how hopeless the so called "Independent Police Conduct Authority" is. My understanding is that complaints go back through the Police through Managers of Police Standards who do have an operational bias and it then returns through those channels back to the complaints authority which shows in this situation its processes are not robust. ]

The whole process is a bloody scam. Why cover criminals asses just because they call themselves police? The shady foundation of the New Zealand Police force has certainly permeated the modern day police force. Unfortunate since I'm sure that there are those within who actually believe in honesty and integrity...but how many?

Not many I'd say.

"Not many" I agree "Kokonutie" those that "maybe" good I think end up colluding with those that are bad by not saying doing anything. The other awareness I have is the concept of apologies now is a con, a way to dilute anger so complaints go away. The "shady foundation" that lux refers is quite solid unfortunately and with the Bazley report into Police Misconduct i was surprised the same misconduct awareness wasn't applied over other areas of the police.
