Lol you don't need to eat them, I didn't Koko ;D I was a good mother too, I never dished up food I knew my kids didn't like. I remembered what it was like when I was young and we weren't allowed to leave the table until we ate everything on our plate.

Speaking of a hangi Maire, I'm going to have all the whanau down some time in the summer for a hangi but my father will have to do it as I haven't done one myself. Just helped. Thing is he's a Pakeha. I wonder how many Pakeha are good at putting down a hangi.

I can remember one my [ex] b.i.l. did one xmas day, he didn't put it down early enough and the food was half raw .. had to be finished in the oven and microwave. Still tasted okay though. Another hangi incident, we got woken up a few xmas mornings ago at about 5.30am with the sounds and smells of burning. I thought the house was on fire until I looked next door and saw they had a fire going (3 to 4 metres high) in the pit dug for their hangi [or umu].

I love my mother I have no idea till it's time to serve it. We had crumbed chicken, mashed tatties and vegies - oh with a few sausages thrown in to make it stretch as a niece called in and also a friend with her daughter, had a couple of wines and decided to stay That's what I love being able to stretch a meal to feed who ever is in the house.
