Nearly finished Warlock by Wilbur Smith. Enthralling, hard to put down, a great story, if you like stories of Ancient Egypt, as I do. The violence and there is a lot, is very graphic and a bit hard to stomach. I skipped over some of the more gruesome bits Sounds like a good book marie...... ven with the gruesome bits.... These are the books in his Egyptian Novels Lolly .. River God, The Seventh Scroll and Warlock ... and there's another I just discovered today .. The Quest looks like I've got my reading sorted for a while ;D

not reading much at the moment, just some lazy chick-lit, not too much concentration needed, lol. Been too busy and tired at the end of the day to do any reading. BUT... only 3 1/2 weeks till the summer holidays, and hopefully I will be able to sit out in my garden and do some serious catching up!! Got a new trilogy by Terry Brooks waiting, I haven't even started the first one, so they have my name on them for the summer!!

I'm currently reading the Chocolate Girls by Annie Murray. its about the lives of 3 women during the war in the 1940's. they're called the chocolate girls because they all work for the Cadbury chocolate factory at that time which then turns into making war supplies when the germans start attacking! its actually really good.

I've jsut read 'The Pact' by Jodi Picoult ...it as an interesting read. Just start the 4th book of Wilbur Smiths.... The Quest! The Egytian series. That series sounds cool cookie, I'll keep an eye out for that one!! I read the Seventh Scroll (I think it was by him) ages ago and that was set in Egypt. Would that have been part of the series? Yes the 7th scroll is part of the series!

At the mo I am reading The time travellers wife! That's a great book! I've read it about 4 times. A few months ago I read 2 Jodi Picoult books. One was about a girl being asked to save her sick sisters life and she takes her parents to court. That was sad. The other one I can't actually remember.

I have just finished "Poison" by Susan Fromberg-Schaeffer. She is a very intellectual writer and I must admit this book had me struggling for her meaning and I suspect she was struggling too as she tried to reveal the emotions of a very dysfuntional and strange family. I stuck it through to the end waiting for some transparency but alas enlightenment didn't come. For light relief I am now reading a thriller by someone called Susan Harris. The cover tells me she is a popular author of mysteries but this is the first time I have heard of her. It's one of those pick up and put down things, but intriguing enough I suppose.

My current read is The Last Testament by Sam Bourne. It's not my normal choice [thriller] and I've already put it aside once to read another book, but am making a second attempt at the moment. Lol don't know if that will last as I bought two more books today ... The Riddles of Epsilon and Overkill. Will report back on my opinions of both.

You have me intrigued now Marlena I might have to hunt out a copy 'Poison' Your name makes me chuckle - when I see Lux I always think - electrolux - which isn't romantic!! But Electra-Lux could be electrifying!! Sorry - I have an odd sense of humour, Regarding that author - it seems her best seller is something called "The Snow Fox" - I am wondering whether to get it and if I have the stamina to wade through and arrive at , to me, another unsatisfactory conclusion!

U G L Y
By Constance Briscoe
I bought this book on Friday, and read it over the weekend. Really really sad book of severe child abuse, neglect & torment. Imagine bringing home your school photo & having your mother say: "Good Lord, why what a ugly child, just ugly ugly ugly!"
From the first page, I was reaching for the tissues. Would like to see a follow up book, as it ends to when she goes to University. Constance's spirit triumphs in the end!
Good book. Hard to read only because it was so emotional.

talking of flakey! has anyone read the book "trademe" the author is often to be seen travelling the hallowed halls of Trademe general "zeke"
its a behind the scenes tale of aliases joined together in a conspiracy full of fun, forbidden romances, alternative lifestyle romance, and a parrot!! ,...much more much more
it was loads of fun mostly from the point of view that we are all familiar with its culture
trademe auctions and its feedback frenzies

I've just finished reading Terry McMillan's Waiting to Exhale. This gripping work was first published in 1992. Terry who is an African American herself writes about four African American girls and their search for a career and family life with dignity. Although McMillan's vocabulary is in certain respects limited (she's overdone the four letter words for example) she exhibits a most remarkable understanding of human relationships in today's world. Definitely recommended. Ringdove PS: The cover says a film has been made based on this work. Strange I never got to hear of it.

A postscript to my last message: I should add that More Magazine in NZ highly recommended Terry's book. I know nothing about the magazine though and will be glad to be enlightened. Ringdove

The film was pitched as that year's "rom-com" (from memory) and it had Whitney Huston in it (pre-drugs decline and fall). It was pretty forgettable and it actually put me off getting the book! If you say the book is good, however, I might have to reconsider ... I'm reading no pleasure books at the moment ...
